Happy New Year! I'm told 5 days in is kind of late to being wishing people a happy new year but I don't care—I'm still riding that "fresh start" feeling.
Every year around October-November I start to think about my goals for next year because I feel like if I wait until January then it's officially a resolution and I won't do it. It's like pre-gaming your resolutions. So far I've improved my health, started a new habit of stretching every single morning, and I'm drawing a lot more. All of those changes have been pretty awesome, but I still have a lot more goals for 2018.
The overall goal is of course to make more art and get that art out there. I started working on that goal by streaming my art 4 days a week on Twitch (www.twitch.tv/jaceychase
). I also started a YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/channel/UCYBpl…
) with new videos coming out once a week on Thursdays.
Streaming has pushed me to create more artwork because there's a sense of accountability when you tell other people what you're doing. It also helps me focus more on the artwork and not get distracted and browse the web and watch videos. Making YouTube videos has forced me to get used to planning around a deadline and being more organized.
But "make more art" is a pretty vague goal, so right now I'm trying to get more specific. What KIND of art do I want to make? What do I want to get improve? I've been saying for ages that I want to do more traditional art. It's easy to say vague stuff that you want to do, but you have to set the plan into action. So now I stream traditional art every Sunday. Now, no matter what else is going on, I'm making more traditional art. My other goals include drawing more backgrounds and adding more prints to my INPRNT (www.inprnt.com/gallery/jaceych…
) and Redbubble (www.redbubble.com/people/Jacey…
). So to break those down into smaller goals, I'm going to try to make at least 10 backgrounds this year. I'm also going to do a series of portraits that I'm gonna be adding to my shops.
I have other art goals like getting better at capturing a likeness when I draw portraits, drawing fabric better, etc. But I feel like I don't want to focus on TOO many things... so those aren't really my main goals, but I still want to keep them in mind. I think it's important to not overwhelm myself with too many projects and obligations. I know that I have a tendency to take on too much so I'm trying to keep that in check.
Anyway, I'd love to hear your goals for 2018! I'd love to have "goal buddies" to help keep me accountable so I don't give up—I'll do the same for you!
